MAST CELL ACTIVATION AND SKIN SYMPTOMS IN ALPHA-GAL SYNDROME

Alpha-Gal syndrome (AGS) is a tick-borne allergy to mammalian meat and dairy, most commonly presenting with skin reactions such as hives, angioedema, and itching hours after exposure. It results from the bite of the lone star tick, which introduces alpha-gal—a sugar found in mammals—into the body. Individuals with AGS may experience severe reactions to foods and products containing alpha-gal, sometimes without prior awareness of the allergy. Reactions can also occur from trace amounts in ingredients such as gelatin, glycerin, carrageenan, and animal-derived substances in personal care products, including tallow, lanolin, soaps, and moisturizers. Join Kris and Garrett for this enlightening discussion of the mechanisms underlying Alpha-Gal syndrome and the concerns related to cosmetic and skincare ingredients that all estheticians should be aware of.

THE SCIENCE OF SPIN – UNMASKING INGREDIENT FACTS:

Obtaining credible information on the safety and effectiveness of cosmetic ingredients is a major challenge.

  • How can we distinguish propaganda, pseudoscience, and marketing strategies that are difficult to verify?
  • What methods enable us to gather reliable scientific data on cosmetics, ingredients, and product safety?
  • How can we separate fact from fiction and uncover the truths behind common misconceptions about cosmetic ingredients?

We look to one of the industry’s most celebrated cosmetic chemists to help us navigate the complex landscape of cosmetic ingredient information.

Join Vince as he takes us beyond scanning applications and websites to explore non-commercial  information. This session aims to dispel myths and offer insights into the current difficulties in interpreting ingredients, how ingredients interact and support overall formulations, and the premise that no single ingredient should be the sole factor influencing a product purchase.
