AUGUST 2026 MONTHLY BLOG
By Laura Hunnewell
Imagine this: you’ve just finished your regular professional facial. You glance in the mirror before leaving and see skin that is deeply hydrated, healthy, and balanced. You feel completely relaxed. To prolong that feeling, you sip some herbal tea and take it easy for the rest of the day.
Taking the time for professional treatments matters but staying consistent with your home care is how you maintain those results every day. Even on nights when you are exhausted, try not to skip washing your face. Instead of viewing it as a chore, reframe it as a moment of intentional self-care—quiet time set aside just for you.
Summer brings its own unique challenges: increased sweat, pollen, and heavy layers of facial SPF or tints from spending time outside by the beach, lake or park. These stubborn layers require thorough, intentional removal.
With all this extra sun exposure, it is the perfect time to address a common myth. True or False: Laying in the sun makes your breakouts go away?
According to Lauren L. Levy, MD, FAAD:
“UV light can certainly make acne appear better by decreasing inflammation but does not address the root cause of acne—that is clogging of the sebaceous gland and hormonal influence. UV light/sunlight will age the skin and lead to sun spots and freckles and may even make pigmentation from acne last longer or become permanent.”
To carefully remove that lingering summer SPF without stripping your skin, an effective approach is key. If you need a gentle cleanse, stick to Quiet Wash alone. If you need a deeper clean to remove stubborn, silicone-heavy tinted SPFs, try mixing Quiet Wash with our newly reformulated Refine Polish. Regular, gentle cleansing and moisturizing are the foundation of a healthy skin barrier.
Don’t forget your eyes! Leaving eye makeup on overnight can lead to irritation. Quiet Wash works great around the eyes (keep them closed when you wash and remove). Then apply your favorite eye cream with your non dominant finger to ensure the delicate eye area is treated with less pressure.
The Mind-Skin Connection: The Beauty of Routine.
Stress impacts on our well-being, and our skin is no exception. In fact, research suggests that stress can actively contribute to many chronic skin problems, making a consistent home care routine even more necessary to monitor for any changes and provide comfort. Routines help establish a sense of normalcy and grounding. We live in a time where digital overstimulation can easily take over our day. At the end of the evening, it’s worth asking ourselves: what am I doing for myself to help me be less connected to things that don’t really matter?
A super easy place to start.
A Weekly Mask Night:
Try picking just one night a week to spend a little extra time nurturing your skin.
Hale & Hush Mask Options:
- Berry Boost: Ideal for a bright, refreshing antioxidant boost.
- Charcoal Mask: Perfect for a deep clean to clarify and fight breakouts.
- The Custom Soothing Blend: Mix Hush Hydrate Gel/Mask, Relief Bio Powder, and 2-3 pumps of Soothe Essence Serum for a calming, redness reducing, and anti-itch treatment.
- Pro-Tip: Make it feel like a true spa day: mix your mask in a dedicated bowl and apply it with a soft fan brush.
The Goodnight Eye Ritual:
Apply your favorite eye cream to provide a smooth slip (we love Eye Mousse to hydrate and brighten naturally). Glide the Seonghae Arctic Eye tool around the orbital bone with very light pressure, then lay back and relax.
LED and Mindful Meditation:
To deepen your relaxation, pair your routine with an LED treatment. Turn on some relaxing music, or crystal sound bowl healing (Tryshe Dhevney has beautiful selections on YouTube), or a guided meditation app. Always invest in trusted, high-quality devices such as: Lightstim as they go through rigorous testing to ensure safety and efficacy. Do your research rather than buying an overpriced option online just because it’s trendy or your best friend says it is the best thing they have ever used.
Protect, Always.
A healthy skin barrier and a balanced mind both thrive on consistency. Remembering Dr. Levy’s advice, always wear sun protection. A great hat is a fun summer essential. Make it a habit: grab your bag, grab your hat, and you are out the door.
Have fun creating your own unique skincare ritual. The dancer and artist Loïe Fuller, best known by turning light and fabric into living magic, wrote that she strived to create an art ‘where reality and dream, light and sound, movement and rhythm form an exciting unity.’ When you step up to the mirror tonight, create your own rhythm of care that allows your skin to rest, restore, and find its own natural glow.
